New events for Mindlab

Welcome back to the new semester! There are some major events in this few coming weeks! First, the announcements:
1. Matthieu Ricard will be talking on "Happiness" (SBCC). Some of us will be attending, and I will attempt an interview. Maybe next year he will stop by at SMC too! In any case, there will be a discussion on what's his main thesis: happiness is not something that happens, but a skill you can cultivate, just like playing Go, o playing guitar. We can train to be happier?! (March 12 in SBCC)
2. The conferences on 7 Emotions (UCLA). This is a major event, right here in LA. Emotions are discussed at length from several points of view (anthropological, neurological, psychological). (March 29)
3. Our Psi Beta chapter!!! We will create our own Psi Beta chapter. This is an Honors Society (3.0 or 75%) endorsed by the APA. Members are eligible for mentorships and summer research workshops, among other things. Probably you all read Nicole's letter, if not, ask her to send it to you, or just drop us a line, or drop by in one of our meetings.
4. Visit to UCLA faculty in April 19 (tentative). Things are moving fast and appointments are materializing. Just what do Psychologist do for a living? Come and join for a day at Westwood, chatting and asking them about how they got there in the first place, what they thought they would do, and what they actually end up doing. You might find something unexpected!!
5. The Experiments. After member Joana G brought the idea of getting us a biofeedback machine, Christian H. (not me) decided to go for it: we'll soon be having fun with the toy! Carol C. is doing a paper on competitiveness based on tennis matches; Laura and Sierra are doing a presentation on Aspergers syndrome..., and that's just the beginning!
Well friends, stay in touch. Come to our meetings, Thursdays LS 217 at 5 pm. Send us your email so we can keep you updated.
